The Missing Link. [Franzen JL, Gingerich PD, Habersetzer J, Hurum JH, von Koenigswald W, et al. (2009) Complete Primate Skeleton from the Middle Eocene of Messel in Germany: Morphology and Paleobiology. PLoS ONE 4(5): e5723. doi:10.1371/journal.pone.0005723]
I thoroughly enjoy the fact that whoever discovered this fossil had the cojones to name it Darwinius masillae, as though it’s very existence is the irrefutable proof sought for Darwin’s theory. Fantastic. That said, one of the most legitimate claims made against evolution has been the lack of fossil samples of appropriate age with physiological characteristics linking disparate but genetically related species. This fossil certainly adds weight to the argument for common ancestry.
